Jamilah Kolocotronis

After graduating from Kirkwood High School, Jamilah went to college and earned a B.A. in Philosophy and Religion. She earned an M.A. in Social Science Education with an emphasis on Philosophy and Religion, and a Ph.D. in Social Science Education with an emphasis on American History. She developed a multicultural social studies curriculum and taught social studies at the middle and high school levels for twelve years. Jamilah has also lived and traveled in Southeast Asia. Since 1982, she has been busy raising and guiding her sons. Jamilah lives in Lexington, Kentucky.

Jamilah writes, “I write Islamic fiction. My books are about American Muslims striving to live Islamic lives within the challenges of American society. I especially like to write about converts who struggle to integrate their non-Islamic pasts with their new lives as Muslims. For style, I prefer first-person narrative, as told from different characters' POV.”
