In Memory of
Amatullah Al-Marwani

A Beloved Sister in Islam

Short Biography

Amatullah Al-Marwani embraced Islam in 1996.  She was a California resident, wife, mother of Amirah and Zaahir, public speaker, teacher, author, web-developer, and President of ISLAM in Action. At the time of her death she was employed as a librarian at the Granada Islamic School.

On April 29, 2005 Sister Amatullah died several weeks after undergoing a bone marrow transplant for the leukemia she endured for three years. Amatullah was a gifted writer, friend to many, and an exceptional Muslimah. She loved Allah, her family and she loved Muslims.

Amatullah wrote, "Raising children with the morals, values and dignity of our faith can be a struggle for parents. Insha'Allah, these books will make one step of the journey easier—and more fun!—for the whole family."

Amatullah also wrote speeches for Board members of CAIR-National and helped many Muslim brothers by creating written resumes needed for employment. She often penned herself as “The Mad Rhyming Woman” because she loved to use rhyming in her correspondence with friends, poetry and stories.

Amatullah was a founding member of Islamic Writers Alliance and beloved by her many peers and sisters in Islam. To honor her memory and work she remains as an honorary member of Islamic Writers Alliance.

“This book is her legacy to writers and readers everywhere. May Allah reward her for the knowledge she has left for us.” --Widad Delgado - friend and writing buddy

"Star Writers, a manual for creative writing written by our late Sister Amatullah Al-Marwani, is one of the most original and refreshing books I've seen for quite some time.  Set up as an interactive exploration into how to stimulate an eager young writer's imagination, it offers many lessons to engage our youth in that most noble of pursuits: writing with intellect and flair.  I would definitely encourage Muslim parents, and English departments in Islamic schools, to acquire this book for their budding young authors.  The simple fact that it is very Islam-proactive in its hints and suggestions, while at the same time written in perfect language for today's youth, calls for its adoption in English curriculums everywhere."  -- Star Writers Review by Yahiya Emerick, September 28, 2005.
