Like the Women of Ansar
By Mahasin Shamsid-Deen

I am a Muslim woman

I am all of us, and yet still only me

I am a Muslim women of the past

And I am them and they are me

I rely on Allah as Hajrah

as I run to leave a legacy for all  mankind

I stand by the oneness of Allah as the wife of Pharaoh

As I stand against the delusion of godhood in his mind

I call on Allah as the mother of Musa

As He delivers my son back to me to cool my eye

I submit myself to Allah as mother of Maryam

As I dedicate the girl in my womb and with tears of joy I cry

I learn of Allah as Bilqis

As I realize there is something more important than me

I believe in Allah as Khadijah

As I fall in sajdah after my husband received his first wahee

I sacrifice myself for Allah as Sumayyah

As I become the first martyr in this deen

I first for the cause of Allah as Naseebah

And rely on the power and deliverance of the Unseen

I obey Allah as the women of the Ansar

And thank Him for giving guidance so we can see

I am a Muslim Woman

I am all of us, yet still only me
