How can I doubt
your mercy, oh my beloved?
Let me not forget
The flamingo sun
Aflame in a evening sky
Streaked gold, fuchsia, violet
Let me not forget
The butternut moon
A round of ancient parchment
Hung like a Chinese lantern
Between elms
Let me not forget
The newborn calf with eyes of pure soul
The cobalt powder of a butterfly’s wing
The exultant, exuberant growth of spring leaves
The curl of an infant’s finger, the dimples in her elbows
The perfect symmetry of a single snowflake
Who, then, could doubt your
mercy? |

Raheem
Oh my Lord!
I have felt the caress of Your
Palm
As You picked me up,
Lofted me across oceans,
And tenderly set me
In the one
Single
Spot
In this entire world
That would nourish the fragile shoots
Of my new found faith
And grow them
Into exuberant certainty
I have felt the touch of Your
Breath
As You blew the Living Soul
Through my belly,
Into the stirrings of self
Growing there
Two precious humans
Sheltered in the warmth
Of my body’s embrace
A gift
Given anew
Each day
Growing more generous
I have felt the fire of Your
Kiss
As You impassioned my soul
With Love
Wooing me with gifts
Beyond compare
Husband
Children
Words to win hearts
You are not the inconstant one
It is I who have faltered
Only to find
You have once again caught me in your Palm |
